For many centuries, people have made pilgrimages to Blarney Castle, the home of the Blarney stone, in order to kiss the Blarney Stone so that they might have bestowed upon them the gifts of eloquent speech and good luck. According to legend, the Blarney stone was formed from half of the stone of Scone which some have even attributed to be the Lia Fial or stone of kings. The Stone of Scone was said to have been given in the year 1314 AD as a gift of gratitude by Robert the Bruce to Cormac McCarthy, the Lord of Blarney, for the use of his men during the battle of Bannockburn. When the Lord of Blarney saved an old woman from drowning, he was told about the special gifts of the stone that could be achieved by kissing it.
